Playing Hookie

I won't be in class this week. I'm going to Kentucky to see the Creation Museum, a Christian focused history museum. It sounds pretty interesting to me, I'll probably enjoy it. This means I won't be at Co-Op at all this Friday. You all will be dearly missed.

The Spider And The Fly

“W ill you  walk into my parlour?” said the Spider to the Fly,  'Tis the prettiest little parlour that ever you did spy;   The way into my parlour is up a winding stair,    And I've a many curious things to show when you are there.” “Oh no, no,” said the little Fly, “to ask me is in vain,  For who goes up your winding stair can never come down again. ” “I'm sure you must be weary, dear, with soaring up so high;  Will you rest upon my little bed?” said the Spider to the Fly. “There are pretty curtains drawn around; the sheets are fine and thin,  And if you like to rest awhile, I'll snugly tuck you in!” “Oh no, no,” said the little Fly,  “for I've often heard it said,  They never, never wake again, who sleep upon your bed! ” Said the cunning Spider to the Fly,  “Dear friend what can I do,  To prove the warm affection I 've always felt for you?   I have within my pan...

The Harlem Hellfighters

Becoming an Author    For my American literature class, I have to write a short-story. I've decided to write based on the Harlem Hellfighters. They were officially known as the 369th infantry in WWI. An entire infantry of African-Americans. Americans at the time showed hatred toward them, to the point of giving them to France because they refused to fight alongside blacks. In France, they were treated like any other regiment, also keeping their uniforms besides their new French helmets.    The Hellfighters were one of the most impressive people on the battlefield. Pvt. Needham Roberts heard a German patrol entering his designated area by cutting barbed wire. He accidentally loaded a French magazine into his American gun, jamming it. He then fought off the patrol using the rifle as a club and a bolo knife, killing at least four and wounding about 20 more. Roberts was the first American awarded the Croix de Guerre. He wasn't given the Medal of Honor until 2015,...

Повторе́нье - мать уче́нья

Repetition is the Mother of Learning    I love the way that sounds. It's the Russian equivalent of our "Practice makes perfect," and perfectly describes learning any language. Repeat. Repeat. Repeat. And even then, you barely know it. I was recently thinking about my future, which I'm sure all parents pressure their children to think about. I've considered a few careers, but I've narrowed it down to two. Being a chemist would be interesting and in high demand, especially where there are many chemical plants. I started to consider it after taking chemistry and finding it enjoyable, but I wouldn't say it's easy.   The second is becoming a linguist. It's more of a dream than anything I feel like I could actually reach. I love learning Russian. If you talk to me about Russian, I can go on for hours about it, believe me. We've looked at some options, such as colleges and military. College is an easier option, but it's expensive. If I we...
